About Archman Linux

Archman Linux is an independent Arch Linux–based GNU/Linux distribution developed to provide a fast, elegant, and user-friendly desktop experience.

The project focuses on delivering a carefully configured system built on top of the Arch Linux ecosystem, while maintaining a balance between simplicity, usability, and performance. Archman aims to remain close to the Arch Linux philosophy while offering a ready-to-use environment for both new and experienced Linux users.

The primary edition of Archman Linux features the Xfce desktop environment, chosen for its stability, efficiency, and flexibility. In addition to Xfce, alternative editions with KDE Plasma and MATE desktop environments are also available.

Archman Linux is a community-driven project originating from Türkiye, with a vision that extends beyond local users to the global open-source community.

The name “Archman” is derived from a combination of Arch Linux (“Arch”) and the Pacman package manager (“man”).

Project Philosophy

Archman Linux follows a development approach centered on:

  • Staying close to the Arch Linux base
  • Providing a clean and minimal system
  • Maintaining performance and stability
  • Listening to community feedback and real-world usage

New releases go through multiple testing phases, including alpha, beta, and release candidate (RC) stages, to ensure a stable and reliable system.

Package Repository

Archman Linux maintains a minimal distribution-specific repository. These repositories primarily contain:

  • Distribution-specific configurations
  • Artwork and theming components
  • A limited number of packages not available in the official Arch repositories
  • Additional drivers for certain hardware when necessary

The goal is to keep the distribution lean while relying on the extensive Arch Linux repositories whenever possible.

Relationship with Arch Linux

Archman Linux is based on Arch Linux but is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Arch Linux project. It is developed and maintained independently.

Users seeking support for Archman Linux are encouraged to use the official Archman Linux resources, including its website, documentation, and community forums.

Development

Archman Linux is developed by contributors with long-standing experience in the Arch Linux ecosystem and related distributions. The project combines technical experience with community feedback to continuously improve the distribution.
