Manjaro linux  2012 0.8.0 Installation

Download your favorite desktop environment (KDE,GNOME, XFCE) of the new Arch based distro Manjaro Linux 20122.0.8 herehere and prepare the iso image to install. You can use CD/DVD and USB flash disk. Insert your installation media and reboot your computer.
Warning: If you prefer installation with USB, you should have adjust your compuer to boot from USB. And we do not support Unetbootin. To burn your iso image on USB Flash Disk use a diffferent application. Try USB Transfer

Choose the language with arrow keys and press enter: American Engilish or UK Engilish

Boot Manjaro linux Choose and forward. If u prefer nonfree graphic drivers, you should choose Boot Manjaro linux with noonfree graphics drivers. After a while the desktop will be there for you.

Before the installation, enjoy the distro first. If u decided to install Manjaro Linux, double click the Manjaro CLI installer.

Close the wellcome screen with press OK and step forward.

To adjust your date and time press ok when Set date and time is highlighting.

For international timezone use UTC, for local timezone use localtime

Choose your region as in sample  Europe

Choose your country. I choose London.

Nothing to do here.Press  OK and go forward.

Warning:Be carefull here. Otherwise you can loose your data's in your entire disk.

As you see there are two preferencess to prepare your HDD.
1- Asissted prepartion Erases all your disk(s) and prepare your HDD automatically to install.

2-Partition by hand and choose the partitions to use You can use your HDD as you wish manually. I prefere this way.

The existing disks will be detected here and displayed. There is only one partition listed because this guide has been prepared on VM. If you have more HDD's in your system, they will be shown as sda,sdb,sdc... . Press  OK

Choose your target disk  /dev/sdx (replace x with your hard drive a,b,c.. )

After the warning message is shown press  OK

The disk partitioning tool is cfdisk. You need boot,swap and root to partition your disk. It is not neccessarry to create swap and home partitions if u have allready installed an other Linux in your system. 100 MB is enough for 'BOOT'. For 'Swap' , it will be better if u choose the double size of yur RAM (for example, if u have 2 GB RAM, you need 4 GB for Swap). And for base system ( / root) you need 20-25 GB or more as you wish.

Let us see how to do this now.

There are two preferencess for you to prepare your disk. Use LPrimary or Logical. All is up to you. The point is, you can create only 4 primary volumes. If u need more partitions, you should have use Logical Partitioning.
For Primary press enter when it is highlightening.

Enter 100 for Boot and press enter.

When  Beginning is highlightened press enter.

When  Bootable is highlightened press enter.

Use arrow keys and choose the empty space to create your swap. Press  New

Press enter when  Primary is hghlightened.

Enter your swap size and press enter

Press enter when Type is hghlightened.

Here you can see the file systems. For swap use 82

And we need the ( / ) root partition for install. Choose  New with arrow keys and press enter.

Choosing the space for ( / root) is up to your available free space.

Select Type with your keyboard and press enter.

Write 83 and press enter.

Select Write and press enter.

Select Yes and press enter.

Disk partitioning is finished.Select  Quit  ant press enter.

Press enter when Done and Ok are choosen.

Press enter when Ok is choosen.

Press enter when Ok is chooosen.

Select Swap and press enter.

Warning about formatting the drive. Select  Yes and press enter.

Warning:If you have allready installed  an other distro and created the swap, do not format the swap partition. Only choose it and go forward. Otherwise, the other Linux distro's (installed before) may not work.

Select ( / Root )  and press enter.

Select your filesystem (EXT4) and press enter.

Press enter when warning is shown Yes

Select Boot and press enter

Select your filesystem (EXT4, XFS... ) and press enter.

Select Mount Point and press enter.

Select Ok and press enter.

Select Done and press enter.

Summary message of information what has been done will be shown. Select Yes and press enter.

Select 'Main Menu' and press enter.

Select 'Install System' and press enter.

System installing. It will take a  time depending on your hardware.

After finished the installation select  Continue and press enter.

Updating Mirror List. Please wait..

Select onfigure system and press enter.

Adjust your root password. Select Root-Password and enter.

Adjust your user password.

Type user password again.

Create user. Select Setup User and press enter.

I use 'manjaro' as user name. Select yours what ever you wish and press enter.

Select Yes if u wish give this user root access.

You need a passwword for user. Type your password and press enter.

Type again the user password and press enter.

You can adjust the localization,keyborad etc. Select  Cofig-system and press enter. If u wish you can do this after installation.

Select /etc/fstab[/b and press enter.

Here you can see mount points of your disks. If it is correct, there is nothing to do. If it is not, change settings. Press F3 to save and press F2 to exit.

/etc/mkinitcpio.cof Nothing to do here.

Press Ctrl-X to exit .

To adjust the DNS select /etc/resolv.conf and press enter. (If you do not want use DNS pass this step).

For google DNS use as shown. If u prefer a diffeent DNS, it is up to you. Press F3 to save and F2 to exit.

Type the username here in /etc/hostname.

Default is 'manjaro', you can choose an other host name. If you do not change , exit with Ctrl-X, or press F3 for save and F2 for exit.

Select /etc/hosts  and press enter.

On 3 and 4 line add the localhost name and press F3 for save and F2 for exit.

System language is English as default. Select /etc/locale.gen to change it.

Find your own language with the arrow keys.

Delete the ( # ) in front of your language. If u use English there is nothing to do.

If you use an other language, change the line 1 as your language and press F3 for save and F2 for exit.

Select /etc/environment and press enter.

It will be like this. Make the changes as your default language and press F3 for save and F2 for exit.

Mirror List is shown here. Select  /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and press enter.

Uncomment the ( # ) which mirror you want to use. Arch repo lists are there with Manjaro repo lists. It is your own responsibility which mirror you want to use.

For adjust the keyboard settings for your language, select /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf and press enter.

Find the 'Option " XkbLayout" "gb" ' line.
Change  XkbLayout" "gb" to your language.For example, Turkish " XkbLayout" "tr"
F3 for save and F2 for exit.

Select Back

Select Back Main menu.

Be patient when Pacman database is resynchronizing. You will be back to main menu automatically.

Select  Install bootloader and press enter.

press enter if Grub and Ok are selected.

Press enter if Yes is selected on warning message.

Installing Grub2

Grub2 installation complete. Pressenter if Ok is selected.

Press enter if Quit and Ok are selected on main menu.

Manjaro installation is completeı.The CLI installer window CLI will be hut down automatically. Reboot your computer and do not forget reject the installation media.

After reboot , Grub will be there for you. Select your option and press enter.

Enter your user name and password to log in.

Please be patient for opening your desktop.
